In the past, vocational schools used admissions rules that created barriers for many students. Admitting less people of color, English Language Learners, and lower income students. Thanks to an organizing campaign led by the Vocational Education Justice Coalition, including Revere Youth in Action, the admissions process is now a Weighted Lottery. This gives all students a fair chance—not just those with the highest grades or best attendance. If you’re curious, talk with your school counselor — they can help with the application and orientation sessions or contact Seba Ismail at organizer@ryia.org

A new policy makes the process fairer and more inclusive!

This means:

  • No ranking of students

  • No competitive interviews

  • Every applicant has a chance

Students can earn extra lottery tickets to increase access by: Attending an orientation Showing interest (essay, video, interview, or letter) Meeting attendance & discipline guidelines Families have the right to appeal decisions.

What’s New?

All students are now eligible through a Weighted Lottery.
